64 CLYDE STREET Span Community House The Kitchen via Front Entrance Thornbury, VIC 3071 Australia
A public meeting the discuss the possibility of starting a community newspaper for the Darebin LGA, and Cooper electorate.
Do you want a community newspaper?

There was a time when our community had  local newspapers like the Northcote Leader and Melbourne Times where you could keep up to date with local events, news, sport, council matters and so on.  It seems these have been replaced by various online groups where you are bombarded by a never ending feed of things you are mainly not interested in.  Communities are pushing back and creating new models of providing local news that you can read in your local cafe, gym, medical centre, or shopping strip.  The best local example is the Brunswick Voice.  Many of these are hybrid papers that are online, but have occasional paper based editions.  The thing about the online version is that it is curated by an editorial committee to ensure it contains articles that are relevant and family friendly to your community.

The Cooper Listening Post and the Darebin Energy and Sustainibilty Institute are hosting this public meeting to discuss the prospect of starting a local paper.  We would like to hear your views on formats, what sort of content you would like, and most importantly whether you want to be involved.  Register for the event here so we can continue the conversation.
